Itwele Secondary Borehole

During one of our many visits to Itwele Secondary School in Katumba ward we had extended discussions with the Principle, Mr. Peter Michael Mwakasege. Mr. Mwakasege relayed to us that one of the issues his organization faces is absenteeism. Specifically, he mentioned missed days due to water-borne illness and/or pregnancy. Both problems are based on a poor water situation at the school. The school has piped water, but the source is poor, especially in the dry season which forces girls to travel a great distance for decent potable water for the dorms. The Rukwa Foundation decided to partner with this high-performing public school to help them install a new borehole. The new water supply was completed in October. We are delighted to partner with this amazing school and help their talented students remain healthy, comfortable, and focused on their studies.

The well is 110M deep and produces quality water for 800 students on the campus and their teachers through a newly installed system of 16 taps.

Attached please find a full after-action report on this borehole install. https://1drv.ms/b/s!AsXAO90wJ6qC5GqL0C2vtJroxJcu?e=ks5AQF
